Growing up, we are told that it is the thought that counts.
When birthdays roll around, most parents don’t expect kids to stretch their pocket money, preferring something more personal than a store-bought gift.
And what could be more thoughtful than a handmade birthday card when it’s obvious how much effort has gone into it?
Well, these fun cards created by kids for their parents and uploaded to the US trivia website Ranker show that there might be something too personal about it.
With a reading ‘The best birthday for one of the last!’ The messages are sure to make you laugh at the kind of candor only kids can achieve.
A boy was clearly surprised by his loved one’s advanced age and told him as much in a hilariously blunt message.
Stickers, drawings, signatures… and a sanitary napkin! Clara was clearly channeling her creativity when she made this card.
Another boy took the opportunity to thank his mother for giving birth to them with a graphic stickman drawing showing the father encouraging his partner to “just push!!!”
Another made a similar note with the following message: ‘Happy birthday, I didn’t think you would live this long. May you live forever!
Equally amusing are some of the children’s creative choices, with one girl, Clara, choosing to decorate the front of her card with flower stickers, drawings, signatures…and a sanitary napkin.
And another creative soul decided to recreate the scene of his birth using stick figures, with the caption: ‘Thank you for creating me’.
The boy who made this card expressed shock at his loved one’s old age, but took the opportunity to share an optimistic vision of the future.
